Nyika National Park
Rumphi, Malawi
Overview
The park encompasses nearly the entire Nyika Plateau in northern Malawi, approximately 480 kilometres north of Lilongwe and 60 kilometres north of Rumphi by road. A single dirt road branches north from Rumphi to the Katumbi border post winds its way up the plateau’s south-western scarp, continues over the top, where it forms the border with Zambia, then descends the north-west scarp in a series of bends, and continues north to the Chisenga border post.
A spur on the plateau leads east to Chelinda, the park’s headquarters closer to the centre. Although the park boundary is only 35 kilometres from Livingstonia, there is no access from the east.
